Asics running shoes have been made for over 50 years by the Asics company. The company was started in 1949 in Japan making basketball shoes. The name Asics was chosen in 1977. The name consists of the first letter of Latin words meaning "A sound Mind in a sound Body". Asics products were introduced to the United States in 1977.
