Improve Flexibility and Balance
with Fitness Ball Exercises

Fitness ball exercises are done on large, strong inflatable balls. They are usually burst resistant and can hold up to 500-600 lbs.

These fitness balls, also called stability balls, can be used for many aerobic exercises. They are especially good for improving abdominal and lower back muscles. Many different exercises can be performed. Exercising with these balls can be fun.

These are some of the benefits:

  • Exercises strengthen muscles in your lower back, chest and arms.
  • The balls improve flexibility in general and tone your muscles.
  • They can help you reduce weight. Working out a few minutes a day will help burn calories.
  • Many of the exercises will improve your balance and posture.
  • Anybody can do the exercises.
  • They are portable, lightweight and can be taken along when traveling.
  • Balls are inexpensive.

Don't over inflate and make sure that you use the right size.

Sample of exercises:

Lower Back
Go down on your knees and place your upper body over the top of the ball. With your hands behind your head, lift your chest up until your back is straight. Repeat this 10-15 times.

Hip Exercise
Sit on the ball and move your hips from side to side. Keep a good posture with a straight back. Do this for 1-2 minutes.

Balance on Ball
Sit on the ball with a straight back. Put one foot on the ball. Lift the other foot of the floor and put it also on the ball. Hold this position for 10-15 seconds and repeat about 10-15 times.

If you want to make sure that you perform the exercises properly, you might want to buy an instruction booklet or an exercise video.
