Healthy Eating
for Children is important


Healthy eating for children and being physically active is important for growth and development. Eating too much or not the right food and not exercising can lead to overweight and health problems.


Parents can set an example by eating a variety of food low in fat and sugar. Parents also influence children's physical activities. Parents can set a good example by taking a walk, a bike ride or joining a health club.

Children need to eat a variety of foods that should include fruits, vegetables, fat free or low fat milk, lean meats, fish, beans, eggs, nuts and whole grains. Limit the amount of sugars and choose cereals with low or no sugar added. Give the child water instead of sugar sweetened sodas. Prepare foods with less salt. Provide fruits and vegetables for snacks.
