Select Running Watches that will measure your Progress
Running watches can be an excellent help for measuring your performance or progress in
your training. They are convenient, if you are a walker, jogger or runner. The type of watch you need depends on the kind of runner you are.
There are many types and models available, ranging in price from about $40-1000.
1. A beginning jogger or runner might check out models that have features that will benefit
a beginner. Basic features include:
- A time mode that shows the time of the day and a full calendar.
- An indicator that counts laps and shows lap times.
- The data should be displayed in an easy to read format.
Price range is about $40-90.
2. An intermediate or advanced runner should check out watches that will record and display additional features. These features will help analyze and improve performance.
Features might include:
- A time mode that includes basic functions such as time, date and alarm.
- An indicator that has the ability to display data for speed and distance.
- An altimeter/barometer that displays information on weather and temperature.
- Indicators such as a compass, a thermometer and a heart rate monitor could be helpful.
Some of the higher priced watches have features that have the ability to review daily or weekly
histories for a period of 2-3 years. This might be important for professional runners or people
that need to check data for health reasons. Price range is about $300-1000.
