Sturdy and versatile
Weight Benches

flat bench
There are various types of weight benches available. The basic style is the flat bench, which can be used for a variety of exercises. You can do arm, shoulder and chest exercises with dumbbells. It is good for abdominal and back exercises.

Some benches can be adjusted to an incline or decline position. They are very effective, because you can train at different angles and exercise certain muscles. They can provide a good workout, especially with dumbbells.

If you want to use free weights, then a model with racks at one end to hold weights would be better. Many models are adjustable, have leg curls, arm extensions, arm curls and a lat pull down.

When reviewing benches, look for these important features:

  • Construction should be sturdy. The tubing should be thick and strong.
  • To arrive at maximum user weight, include your weight and any weights you will be using.

The price for benches varies from about $100-600. The higher priced models are more stable and come with attachments.

For example, the Bowflex Dumbbell Bench can be adjusted to 6 different positions. It allows you to perform over 30 different exercises. The price is about $200.
