The Mediterranean Diet Plan
can be good for your Heart

The Mediterranean diet plan is closely tied to the olive oil producing Mediterranean region. There is no specific diet, but the most common characteristics are:

  • An abundance of fruits and vegetables is consumed
  • It can include daily: potatoes, breads, nuts and seeds
  • Olive oil is the principal fat
  • Daily consumption of low to moderate amounts of cheese
  • Weekly consumption of small amounts of fish and poultry
  • Red meat a few times per month
  • One or two glasses of wine daily, especially red wine
  • Regular physical activity

There have been recent studies, which basically concluded that a diet high on fruits, vegetables, olive oil, limited dairy products and meat is good for the heart.
